MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – West Virginia women’s swimming and diving athlete Kayla Andrews has been named this week’s women’s BIG EAST Swimming and Diving Athlete of the Week. The conference announces the award every Wednesday.
This is the first year of the award and Andrews becomes West Virginia’s inaugural swimmer to receive the accolade. The Newark, Del., native helped the Mountaineers grab a BIG EAST win against Cincinnati this past Saturday and had key swims in a loss to nationally ranked Louisville on Friday.
The junior broke pool records in both the 50 free (23.21) and the 100 free (50.51) against Louisville. Andrews also finished second in the 100 back (57.73). She was also part of the 400 free relay team that finished first (3:25.59) and broke another pool record.
Against Cincinnati, Andrews was a member of the 400 medley relay team that started the meet off with a first-place finish (3:51.13). Andrews finished the 100 back in first (57.84) and also finished first (50.44) in the 100 free, an event she has yet to not win this season.
West Virginia (men 3-4, women 3-5), will resume its season when it travels to Athens, Ga., to participate in the Georgia Invitational from Dec. 5-7.
