Cross Country: WVU Moves Up To No. 7

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University cross country team has been ranked No. 7 in the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Associations (USTFCCCA) Division I Women’s National Poll, released today. The Mountaineers were ranked No. 9 in last week’s poll.
The Mountaineers received 281 votes in the poll. Washington (359) took first place, followed by No. 2 Oregon (348), No. 3 Florida State (336), No. 4 Minnesota (315) and No. 5 Princeton (306). The Mountaineers are the second-highest ranked Mid-Atlantic region team, behind Princeton, and are the highest ranked BIG EAST squad in front of No. 13 Villanova, who was not ranked last week.
WVU currently ranks No. 2 in the Division I Women’s Cross Country Mid-Atlantic Region rankings by the USTFCCA, announced yesterday. WVU is off to a fast start this season, finishing fourth at the Old Nassau Run, hosted by Princeton, on Sept. 13, and finishing first at the Paul Short Invitational, hosted by Lehigh on Oct. 3.
Next up, the team will race in the Penn State National Invitational in University Park, Pa. The race is set to begin at 10 a.m.
