Volleyball: Mountaineers Hit the Road

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - The West Virginia University volleyball team hits the road this weekend for a 7 p.m. match against St. Francis, Pa., on Friday, Oct. 31, and a 2 p.m. match against BIG EAST foe Rutgers on Sunday, Nov. 2.
The Mountaineers are 6-16, 0-9 BIG EAST after falling to St. John’s (0-3) and Connecticut (1-3) this past weekend. Junior Abby Ranies led the team with 14 kills, including a season-high 10 kills in the match against Uconn, while freshman setter Kari Post led in both assists (40) and digs (26).
The Red Flash moved to 8-16, 2-1 in the Northeast Conference after a 3-2 win over Wagner this past weekend. Senior Keisha Gibbs led the team with 14 kills and a .312 hitting percentage. The Mountaineers hold a 6-1 all-time series record over the Red Flash after defeating them in a 3-1 match last season in Morgantown.
The Scarlet Knights (1-17, 0-8 BIG EAST) are also looking for their first conference win of the season after falling to Georgetown (0-3). Sophomore Caitlin Saxton led the team with 10 kills, while junior Kyra Thompson led with a season-best 13 digs. Last season the Mountaineers defeated the Scarlet Knights (3-0) to give them a 21-16 advantage in their all-time series record.
