MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - West Virginia University football player quotes following Tuesday afternoon's practice.
Alric Arnett
On this week’s practice
Practice is more intense this week than last week, and we’ve picked up where we left off. Coach has pointed out to us that for noon games, we need to pick up the intensity because we haven’t come out like we should. The practices has been intense so that we are ready.
Passing game
We came together offensively. The running game, passing game and that starts in practice. We’re clicking. The game plan has pretty much been the same; we are going to throw the ball and run the ball. It’s just that we came out and we executed and everyone did their job.
On Connecticut
I see that they have a good defense, especially their front four. They come off the line and put the pressure on the quarterback. They play zone and some man-to-man, so we’re putting a game plan together to find help us keep the ball moving.
JT Thomas
On UConn’s young quarterbacks
I see that they are still getting the same things accomplished. It’s not like they were playing a spread offense and their main quarterback got hurt or anything like that. They are still doing the same things with the younger quarterbacks and continue to be successful.
On UConn running back, Donald Brown
It’s not just one person that can stop him-it’s the whole defense that need to do it. It will take all 11 guys to stop him. We’re going to have to rally to the ball and do the best to get him to the ground.
On the defense as a whole
I wouldn’t say that all of our kinks are worked out but we were up for the Thursday night games. A lot of guys were ready to play but that is in the past. We have to get ready to go up to UConn and have a good outing.
Sidney Glover
On UConn’s offense
From what I saw, I thought Cincinnati was battling most of the game and then UConn put up some points in the fourth quarter. It was a good game, and I don’t think the score really indicated how close the game was. The turnovers really hurt Cincinnati in the game. Things like that hurt you.
On UConn running back, Donald Brown
I watched the game Saturday, and he is just tough and relentless. He is physical the way he is stiff arming people right now, and that was just watching one game. It’s just another challenge for us on Saturday, to hold him down and that’s what we’re working on.
On practice
We’re working hard at practice to put ourselves in better third down situations and execute. The coaches have been working hard with us, and now we just need to execute better.
