MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University cross country team is ranked No. 5 in the latest U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Associations Division I Women’s National Poll, released today.
This is the second consecutive week the Mountaineers have been ranked No. 5. The ranking is the highest in school history for the WVU cross country program.
The Mountaineers received 311 votes in the poll. Washington (360) took first place, followed by No. 2 Oregon (347), No. 3 Florida State (334) and No. 4 Princeton (324). The Mountaineers are the second-highest ranked Mid-Atlantic region team, behind Princeton, and are the highest ranked BIG EAST squad in front of No. 6 Villanova.
There were no changes in the top 10 spots this week due to the limited amount of competition prior to each team’s conference championships.
Next up, the Mountaineers will race in the BIG EAST Championships on Oct. 31. The defending champions will travel to Van Cortlandt Park in the Bronx, N.Y., for the race, which is being hosted by St. John’s.
