MORGANTOWN, W.VA. – West Virginia University women’s soccer player Blake Miller was named BIG EAST Rookie of the Week, conference officials announced today.
Miller, a true freshman, scored two game-winning goals in 157 minutes of action in two conference games. She also assisted on the game-tying goal against 16th-ranked Georgetown. Her goals were the sixth and team-leading seventh of the season. Miller’s five points over the weekend give her 15 for the season – tops on the team.
The St. Louis, Mo., native’s goal against the Hoyas was the first in seven overtime matches this season for the Mountaineers. Her seven goals leave her one shy of tying former Mountaineer and BIG EAST Rookie of the Year Ashley Banks for most goals by a WVU freshman in school history.
WVU is 6-0-1 when Miller scores a goal this season. Her goals over the weekend led to pair of wins that moved WVU into first-place in the BIG EAST American Division.
The weekly conference honor is the first of Miller’s career.
West Virginia closes out the regular season with a pair of BIG EAST road matches. The Mountaineers travel to Marquette on Friday, Oct. 24, and take on USF on Sunday, Oct. 26.
