MORGANTOWN, W.VA. – West Virginia University women’s soccer player Nicole Mailloux was named BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week, conference officials announced today.
Mailloux is the fifth Mountaineer this season to earn the conference’s weekly defensive honor. The Mississaugua, Ontario, native guided the Mountaineers to a pair of shutouts in conference play, posting a 3-0 win over Providence and a 0-0 tie with Connecticut.
The junior center back native helped limit the Friars and Huskies to three shots on-goal in the two victories. The clean sheets were the ninth and tenth of the year for the Mountaineer defense, which has not allowed a goal in the last 220 minutes of action.
The weekly conference honor is the first of Mailloux’s career.
West Virginia (8-2-5, 3-1-3), ranked 21st nationally, resumes BIG EAST play this weekend with its final two home contests of the regular season. The Mountaineers battle 16th-ranked Georgetown (9-1-2, 4-1-0) at 7 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 17.
