MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – “ESPN had it wrong.”
“Thanks for showing the country what Mountaineer spirit is all about.”
“You never quit ... you never gave up ... you stayed together as a family.”
These are just a few of the hundreds of congratulatory messages that rolled in overnight as the 11-2 Mountaineers overpowered the No. 3 ranked Oklahoma Sooners in the 2008 Tostitos Fiesta Bowl.
Fans are encouraged to keep logging on to WVU BowlSpace at bowlgame.wvu.edu and let the team and coaches know how they feel about one of WVU’s biggest wins in football history.
Running back Owen Schmitt had his longest touchdown run ever…quarterback Patrick White ran for 150 yards and threw for 176 more, including two touchdowns…Noel Devine came off the bench and ran for two scores ... WVU’s defense stepped up with big-time plays…Pat McAfee hit two early field goals…and Coach Bill Stewart led his team to victory with a great game plan and a heart as big as the Mountaineer nation.
