MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University track & field team finished up competition at the Penn State Invitational today at the Horace Ashenfelter III Indoor Track in University Park, Pa.
Marie-Louise Asselin headlined West Virginia’s afternoon by winning the 1,000-meter run with a time of 2:47.94. Asselin edged Georgetown’s pair of Renee Tomlin (2:48.22) and Maggie Infeld (2:50.55). Freshman Katelyn Williams cleared 1.72-meters in the high jump to take fifth-place.
“Those were a couple of wonderful performances by our girls today,” Head Coach Sean Cleary says. “Asselin runs the fourth-best time in school history in that event and Katelyn Williams jumped great in her event.”
Asselin’s time finishes behind Kate Vermeulen (2:43.01), Megan Metcalfe (2:46.78) and Merissa Sexsmith (2:47.48)
Freshman Ahna Lewis ran to a second-place at 10:08.77 in the 3,000-meter run. April Rotilio placed seventh in her section of the 200-meter dash at 24.79. Maria Dalzot placed eighth in her group in the 1-mile run with a time of 5:11.86.
WVU returns to action at the State Farm Games in Morgantown on Feb. 2, at the WVU Shell Building.
