Gymnastics: WVU Set for Home Opener

MEET NOTES
MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University gymnastics team competes against No. 7 Oklahoma, George Washington and William & Mary in the home opener Sunday, Jan. 27, at the WVU Coliseum at 1 p.m.
The Mountaineers (2-4, 1-0 EAGL) are coming off of a dual meet win at Maryland a week ago. West Virginia posted a season high in three of four events to bring the team’s total to a season-best 193.050.
Mountaineer gymnasts Amy Bieski and Shelly Purkat were named the league’s Rookie of the Week and Specialist of the Week, respectively, after their performances at Maryland. WVU’s average score is now 191.825 points through three meets this season.
Oklahoma brings a 195.583 average score into Sunday’s meet, while George Washington averages 190.000 and William & Mary averages 182.725 points per meet.
The Mountaineers fell to Oklahoma at the Cancun Classic on Jan. 4, 195.175-192.125, and are now 1-3 all-time against the Sooners. West Virginia is 11-0 all-time against William & Mary and is 31-1 in meetings with George Washington.
