MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – A pair of double-double games has helped West Virginia’s Olayinka Sanni earn Big East player of the week honors, the conference announced today.
Sanni scored 22 points and grabbed 15 rebounds in West Virginia’s 68-63 victory over Marquette last Wednesday night in Morgantown. The senior followed that up with a 21-point, 16-rebound performance in the Mountaineers’ 68-44 win at St. John’s last Saturday.
Sanni shot 57.1 percent from the floor (16 of 28) and made 11 of 13 free throws for the week. The Chicago Heights, Ill., resident has reached double figures in 16 of 17 games this season and is averaging a team-best 17.6 points per game.
The Mountaineers, 14-3, 4-1, face Marshall Wednesday night in Charleston in the first game of the Chesapeake Energy Capital Classic. Both the men’s and women’s games will be available online on a pay-per-view basis through CSTV All-Access for just $11.95.
The women’s game is set to tip off at 5:30 pm while the men’s game will get started at 8 pm.
