MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – West Virginia University’s nationally ranked women’s basketball team (12-3, 2-1) plays host to BIG EAST foe Marquette (9-6, 1-1) Wednesday, Jan. 16, at 7 p.m., at the WVU Coliseum. The game will be broadcast throughout the state by West Virginia Public Broadcasting.
The No. 14/14 Mountaineers are coming off a key 56-50 home win over then-No.14 Notre Dame on Sunday, while the Golden Eagles have been idle since a narrow 65-61 home loss to No. 5 Rutgers, January 8.
WVU moved to No. 14 in the ESPN/USA Today Coaches’ Poll with 367 points, released today, up two spots from last week’s ranking. The Mountaineers had garnered 316 points in the poll last week. West Virginia is also ranked No. 14 in the AP Poll, released yesterday.
West Virginia enters the Marquette contest having won 18 of its last 19 games at the WVU Coliseum. That includes a 12-game overall win streak and an eight-game BIG EAST home winning streak.
Marquette leads the all-time series by a 2-0 margin, which includes wins over WVU in Morgantown and in Milwaukee. MU bested West Virginia, 80-75, two years ago in the Coliseum and 74-50 last year at the Al McGuire Center.
