MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University track team will compete at the Penn State Relays on Saturday, Jan. 12, at the Horace Ashenfelter III Indoor Track in University Park, Pa., at 9:45 a.m.
Penn State will serve as host to the 12-school meet that includes Cornell, Princeton, and Villanova, along with the Mountaineers.
The Mountaineers have already competed once this season, before the semester break. West Virginia served as host to the WVU Holiday Classic on Dec. 8.
Freshman Chelsea Carrier had the strongest afternoon of any Mountaineer as she won the long jump with a leap of 5.71 meters and the 60-meter hurdles.
Thrower LaShawna Black also opened her season nicely as well, throwing her personal-best in the shotput. Black’s throw was measured at a BIG EAST qualifying mark of 13.10 meters to win the event.
Sophomore Kristen Loughry cleared a BIG EAST qualifying and meet-high 3.40 meters in the pole vault and WVU had two BIG EAST qualifiers in the high jump as Natasha Redman and freshman Katelyn Williams each cleared 1.66 meters.
