MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The No. 22 West Virginia University gymnastics team will compete against No. 9 Michigan and No. 14 Arkansas in Ann Arbor, Mich., in a tri-meet at Crisler Arena on Friday, Jan. 11, at 7:30 p.m.
West Virginia competed versus both the Wolverines and Gym’Backs last season. WVU lost in a home meet to Michigan 194.85-194.80, in its season opener a year ago. The Mountaineers last faced Arkansas in 2007, losing 196.250-194.300 in Fayetteville, Ark.
This is the season opening meet for Arkansas and Michigan. WVU is 4-13 all-time against U-M while 2-2 in four meets with Arkansas.
The Mountaineers (1-2) are coming off of a third place finish at the Cancun Classic in Mexico on Jan. 4. West Virginia scored 192.125 points and were led by freshman Amy Bieski and junior Mehgan Morris.
Competing in her first collegiate meet, Bieski competed in all four events and scored 38.95 in the all-around to take second. The Nanticoke, Pa., native was named EAGL Rookie of the Week for her efforts.
Morris also participated as an all-arounder for just the second time in her career and posted 38.775 points to tie for third in the all-around. The Belle, W.Va., native joined Bieski in the weekly awards, collecting EAGL Gymnast of the Week honors.
