The Captains
Game captains against USF are senior quarterback Adam Bednarik, senior defensive back Vaughn Rivers, senior tight end Mike Villagrana and senior defensive back Eric Wicks.
Coach Rich Rodriguez selects game captains each week. Permanent team captains will be elected at the end of the regular season.
For Starters
A total of 38 Mountaineers now have at least one game of starting experience in their career. Tops on that list are senior defensive lineman Keilen Dykes (37), senior safety Eric Wicks (31), junior offensive lineman Ryan Stanchek (27) and junior running back Steve Slaton (26).
First time starters at USF were freshman running back/wide receiver Jock Sanders and defensive lineman Doug Slavonic.
Bulls’ First Turnover
Mortty Ivy forced WVU’s sixth fumble midway through the first quarter. Scooter Berry recovered the fumble, WVU’s fourth of the season.
Bull’s Second Turnover
Eric Wicks forced and recovered USF’s second fumble of the game. It was Wicks’ sixth career forced fumble and his third career fumble recovery.
Bull’s Third Turnover
Ellis Lankster forced Matt Grothe’s first interception of the season with 2:39 left in the first quarter. It marked WVU’s sixth interception of the season.
WVU’s Second Turnover
Patrick White threw his first interception in 91 attempts late in the first quarter, a span of six games. His previous interception came on WVU’s final play of its contest against USF in Morgantown last year.
USF’s Fourth Turnover
Ryan Mundy intercepted Matt Grothe’s second errant pass of the game in the second quarter. It marked WVU’s seventh interception of the season. It was the first of Mundy’s Mountaineer career.
WVU’s First Half Points
WVU’s three points through the first two quarters against USF marked the fewest in an opening half since the Mountaineers were shutout 17-0 Oct. 8, 2005, at home against Louisville.
McAfee’s Second Field Goal
Pat McAfee hit his second field goals of the game in the third quarter, marking the ninth time in his career he has made multiple field goals in a game.
Reynaud’s Touchdown
Darius Reynaud’s nine-yard touchdown reception from Jarrett Brown in the fourth quarter marked his team-leading fifth touchdown catch of the season and the 12th of his career.
The touchdown pass was the third of Brown’s career and first this season.
