Volleyball: Mountaineers Go 1-1

GAME ONE | GAME TWO
MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University volleyball team went 1-1 today, after defeating Akron (8-4) in the final day of the Friends of Coal Blue/Green Classic.
In game one the Mountaineers improved their record to 8-3 after defeating Akron 3-2 (21-30, 30-22, 21-30, 30-21, 15-12).
Freshman outside hitter Abby Norman led the Mountaineers to victory as she captured a career high 18 kills, giving her an impressive 56 total kills in six games since making her debut last weekend at the WVU Classic.
Also leading the Mountaineers to a victory were seniors Abby Tevis and Kailee Goold. Outside hitter Tevis recorded a double-double with 15 kills and 10 digs. Goold, setter for the Mountaineers also posted a double-double with 49 assists and 16 digs.
In the last game of the tournament the Mountaineers fell to Pepperdine (8-4) in a 3-1 (17-30, 30-28, 30-15, 30-17) match.
Next, the West Virginia University volleyball team, now 8-4 on the season, will open BIG EAST play at the WVU Coliseum this coming weekend with a match against DePaul on Friday, Sept. 21, at 7 p.m., and a contest against Notre Dame on Sunday, Sept. 23, at 2 p.m.
