Men's Soccer: WVU To Face Penn State

MORGANTOWN, W.Va.-The Mountaineer men’s soccer team is back in action as WVU takes on Penn State on Sept. 2 to close out the Bert and Iris Wolstein Soccer Classic hosted by Ohio State in Columbus, Ohio. Head coach Marlon LeBlanc will face his alma mater at noon.
The Mountaineers (0-1) are 19-5-1 in its all-time series with Penn State (0-1). Last season, in the team’s first meeting since 1990, WVU defeated the Nittany Lions 2-1 at Penn State. Penn State dropped its season opener 4-0 against Syracuse in the Bert and Iris Wolstein Soccer Classic on Aug. 31
WVU is coming off of a hard loss at Ohio State in its season opener 1-0 on Aug. 31. A penalty kick in the first five minutes of the match resulted in the game winner for the Buckeyes. Red-shirt freshman Zach Johnson made his collegiate debut in the net for the Mountaineers recording four saves in a full 90 minutes. WVU posted seven shots and seven corner kicks.
LeBlanc played at PSU beginning in 1994, before serving as the first assistant from 2001-2005.
