Volleyball: WVU Opens Season Friday

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University volleyball team opens the 2007 season this weekend with the Morehead State University Comfort Inn and Suites Invitational.
The Mountaineers will start the three-game tournament at 2 p.m. on Friday, August 24, with Southern Illinois. The Salukis finished last season 11-17 overall with a sixth place finish in the Missouri Valley Conference. They are ranked sixth in the preseason MVC poll.
Game two of the tournament will feature the Mountaineers versus tournament host, Morehead State at 7 p.m. on Friday. Members of the Ohio Valley Conference, the Eagles return four starters from the 2006 season, including two Second-Team-All Ohio Valley Conference players. The Eagles were selected to finish second in the league.
To close the weekend, the Mountaineers will face Towson at 2 pm on Saturday, August 25. The Mountaineers hold a 3-2 advantage in the all-time series with Towson, and have not faced each other since the 2003 season.
The Mountaineers are looking to bounce back in 2007 with the return of four starters and 10 letterwinners, including Abby Tevis. Tevis an outside hitter from Pittsburgh, Pa. returns for her senior year after finishing first on the team in kills in 2006 with an outstanding 297.
