Men's Soccer: WVU To Host Marshall In Exhibition

MORGANTOWN, W. Va. – The West Virginia University men’s soccer team will open the 2007 season in an exhibition match against Marshall on Wed., Aug. 22, at Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium. Game time is set for 7:00 p.m.
The exhibition is the first of two for the Mountaineers; the regular season begins at Ohio State in Columbus on Aug. 31.
The Mountaineers closed the 2006 season in the second round of the NCAA Tournament after capturing the BIG EAST regular season championship with a record of 15-3-3. WVU returns 17 lettermen and eight starters.
The Thundering Herd is coming off a 4-10-2, 1-6-1 record in 2006. Marshall returns six starters and 15 letterwinners, welcoming 10 newcomers to the 2007 squad.
The Herd dropped its first exhibition match against Rio Grande, 2-0 on Aug. 18th.
The Mountaineers hold a 15-5-1 record against the Herd, playing Marshall last during the 2004 season. WVU defeated MU 2-1 in a home contest that went into overtime.
The Mountaineer Maniacs will hold a raffle of the limited number of tickets they have available for the WVU-Marshall football game during the second half. Sign-ups for the raffle will only be held at the game. Members who win will be required to pay the $50 fee for the trip at Wednesday's match. Only Maniacs members are eligible.
