MORGANTOWN, W. Va. – The West Virginia University men’s soccer team has been ranked No. 14 by TopDrawerSoccer.com, the site has announced. The Mountaineers are ranked behind three teams they will face this season, including back-to-back national powers Duke and St. John’s. WVU will face No. 1 Duke on Sept. 15 and BIG EAST foes No. 13 St. John’s and No. 10 Notre Dame on Sept. 21 and Oct. 6, respectively. All three matches are on the road.
West Virginia has been ranked in the top 15 in three major preseason polls in the NSCAA/adidas (13th), Collegesoccernews.com (14th) and Topdrawersoccer.com (14th).
Topdrawersoccer.com’s ranking is based on the 48-team field for the postseason NCAA Tournament, reflecting the automatic bids given to Division 1 conference champions. The ranking is intended to be a running projection of who will qualify for the postseason tourney.
The team will kick off the season on Wed., Aug. 22, in an exhibition match against Marshall at Dick Dlesk Stadium in Morgantown, W.Va. Match time is set for 7 p.m.
