MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – West Virginia University track athlete Marie Louise Asselin won the 5000-meter run at the Pan American Games in Sao Paulo, Brazil, Sunday.
Asselin beat out Cuba’s Milena Perez Garcia for the race’s top time of 17:40.28. Garcia crossed in 17:46.38 for second place, while American Emily Sisson took third at 17:47.81.
Asselin, representing her native Canada, already placed second in the 3000 meter run at the Pan American Games earlier this weekend. The WVU sophomore-to-be also ran for team Canada in March at the North American Cross Country Championships.
