Women's Basketball: WVU to Travel to Australia

The Mountaineers will practice a total of 10 days, as mandated by NCAA rules, prior to leaving for Australia on August 5. While in the “Land Down Under,” WVU will play five games versus Australian competition in the cities of Sydney, located in the territory of New South Wales, and Cairns located in the territory of Queensland.
WVU will face New South Wales Institute on Sport on August 8, and an ABA team on August 10, both in Sydney. In Cairns, the Mountaineers will take on Cairns on August 13, and play Townsville twice on August 14, and August 15.
The team will also take in some sightseeing which will feature stops at the famed Opera House in Sydney and tour the Great Barrier Reef in Cairns. WVU will return home August 17.
Eleven Mountaineers will be making the trip: senior guard Meg Bulger, senior foward Chakhia Cole, junior guard Sparkle Davis, senior guard Kendra Goodley, senior guard Lateefah Joye,junior guard Ashley Powell, senior guard LaQuita Owens, senior center Olayinka Sanni, junior forward Melanie Small, redshirt freshman guard Kelly Smith and senior center Ranisha White. The Mountaineer newcomers, be they transfers, junior college transfers or freshmen, are not permitted to travel due to NCAA regulations.
WVU last competed outside the country in 2003-04, when it played in the Paradise Jam Classic in the U.S. Virgin Islands.
