Men's Basketball: AIA Falls in Game Eight

TAIPEI, Taiwan -- Facing a hostile and boisterous crowd mixed in with the hot outside shooting of Chinese Taipei, Athletes in Action had its three-game winning streak at the 2007 William R. Jones Cup snapped with a 83-72 loss Monday.
With the loss, AIA dropped to 5-3 in the tournament while Chinese Taipei improved to 5-3. AIA will conclude Jones Cup competition Tuesday against Iran.
Chinese Taipei made 14-of-27 (52 percent) 3-point field goal attempts and shot 54 percent overall from the field (32-of-59). AIA shot just 39 percent overall from the floor (28-of-71) and just 29 percent from behind the arc (7-of-24).
Cliff Hamonnds (Cairo, Ga,/Clemson) and Reed Rawlings (Chattanooga, Tenn.) led the Americans with 14 points each. Brian Asbury (Miami, Fla./Miami) added 13 points in the loss and Alex Ruoff (Spring Hill, Fla./West Virginia) netted 12.
Tai-Hao Wu led all scorers with 22 points. Hsin-An Chen and Chih-Chien Lin made five 3s each to finish with 20 and 19 points respectively.
Chinese Taipei took control late in the first quarter hitting back-to-back 3s to lead by seven after the opening quarter.
Still ahead by seven with 1:37 remaining in the half, Chinese Taipei made a trio of 3s to push its lead to 16, 43-27, and held a 13 point lead at intermission.
Hammonds scored 10 points in the first six minutes of the third to bring AIA within five before Taiwan went on a 9-0 run to push its lead back to double figures.
The lead remained double digits for the duration of the contest.
