Track: Three Named Academic All-District

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Three West Virginia University track & field student-athletes were named to the academic all-District II team as selected by ESPN The Magazine and CoSIDA.
Sprinter/hurdler Jessica Czaikowski, distance runner Alison Spiker and multi-event athlete Abbie Stechschulte were each named to the District II’s second team.
Czaikowski, a senior, just finished her career placing 19th in the 100-meter hurdles at the 2007 NCAA outdoor track and field championship in Sacramento, Calif. The Tottenham, Ontario, native showed a 3.75 GPA in pursuing a master’s degree in elementary education.
Spiker, a junior, has been a leader on a young cross country team over the past few years. The Ripley, W.Va., native helped guide her team to a fourth place finish at the Mid-Atlantic Regional this fall after entering the meet ranked 10th in the region. Spiker has a 3.95 GPA as a biology major.
Stechschulte, a senior, earned All-America honors in the indoor season for her sixth place finish in the pentathlon at the 2007 NCAA Indoor Championship. The Columbus Grove, Ohio, native is currently competing at the 2007 NCAA outdoor track and field championship in the heptathlon. Stechschulte is a speech pathology and audiology major with a 3.38 grade-point average.
