MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – West Virginia University and the University of Colorado will participate in a home-and-home football series in 2008-09.
“All of the terms have been agreed to by e-mail,” WVU Deputy Athletic Director Mike Parsons said Wednesday. “We’re waiting for the contract to sign it and send it back.”
The Mountaineers will travel to Boulder for a game on September 27, 2008, with the Buffaloes returning the game on September 26, 2009, in Morgantown. ESPN helped arrange the series, and the cable network will likely televise the contests on one of its family of networks.
Parsons said the dates with Colorado developed when North Carolina asked to drop a scheduled home-and-home series with the Buffaloes.
These will be the first meetings of the two schools on the football field. The 2008 game will also mark the return to CU of WVU director of football operations Mike Kerin, a 1977 Colorado graduate who earned three letters at tight end for the Buffs, playing in the 1975 Bluebonnet and 1977 Orange Bowls. Mountaineer Sports Network analyst Dwight Wallace was also on the Colorado coaching staff during that era.
West Virginia's last meeting with a Big XII school came in 1998 when the Mountaineers lost to Missouri 34-31 in the Insight.com Bowl.
