Burdette’s team of Michael Griffith, Matt Jones, Rich Tetrick, Paul Butcher and Chris Estep shot a 15-under par 55 on the par 70 course, including a 10-under par 26 on the front nine. The group eagled the 486-yard par five hole number nine.
“It was a great team,” noted Burdette, who says she was also part of one other winning team at the Classic. “We didn’t really have a lot of options with usually just one ball to choose from, but each player did their part. It was a team effort.”
Burdette’s team edged out women’s track coach Jeff Huntoon’s group which finished 14 under par. Former WVU basketball player Dave Allara’s team finished third with a 13-under-par 67.
Twenty one teams and 126 golfers participated in this year’s event, which benefits scholarships for Mountaineer student-athletes. Prizes were awarded for closest-to-the-pin on each of the course’s five par 3s, as well as the straightest drive on the 365-yard par hole number four.
West Virginia football coach Rich Rodriguez, new basketball coach Bob Huggins and former football coach Don Nehlen also took part in the event, which was presented by Suddenlink.
