BROOKLYN, N.Y. – WVU baseball players senior Justin Jenkins and sophomore Adam White were named to the all-BIG EAST teams by the league at the 2007 BIG EAST baseball tournament banquet Monday evening.
Jenkins was a repeat selection on the first team as an outfielder, while centerfielder White was named to the third team. White was named to the second team as a freshman in 2006.
Jenkins batted .372 this season with 21 doubles, 11 home runs and 48 RBI. His 33 career home runs ties him with Stan Posluszny (2003-06) for second all-time in school history, while his 140 career RBI places him in fifth. He was named to the all-BIG EAST first team a year ago and was a second team selection as sophomore in 2005.
Jenkins leaves WVU with a .369 career average and eight school records in his name. The Ridgeley, W.Va., native has records for career doubles (69), career total bases (429), career multi-hit games (78), career hit-by-pitches (27), consecutive multi-hit games (8), season base hits (94 in 2006) and career base hits (253). The second-team preseason All-American also put together a school record 38-game hit streak which also ties him for 10th all-time in NCAA baseball history.
White batted .365 as a leadoff hitter with nine doubles and 32 RBI in his second season in the Mountaineer lineup. The Morrisdale, Pa., native stole 11 bases and did not commit an error in 123 chances in centerfield. White now has 30 career steals through two seasons, good for 10th in school history.
Rutgers’ Todd Frazier was named BIG EAST Player of the Year, while Louisville’s Zack Pitts and Justin Marks were named Pitcher and Rookie of the Year, respectively. St. John’s coach Ed Blankmeyer garnered Coach of the Year honors for the third time in his career after leading the Red Storm to the regular season title for the second time in three seasons.
