Wheeling, W.Va. - West Virginia University's track and field team won every event at the Wheeling Jesuit Cardinal Twilight on Saturday, May 12, in Wheeling, W.Va.
The Mountaineers, originally scheduled to compete at this weekend's ECAC Championship in Princeton, N.J., opted to participate in the Twilight with hopes of nabbing NCAA Regional qualifiers. Unfortunately, the weather conditions did not help the cause.
"The wind was awful this weekend and really hurt the girls," says coach Jeff Huntoon. "They all put forth great efforts, but we didn't catch a break with the wind."
Sophomore Raeleen Hunter had an exceptional day for WVU, winning the 800 meter run with a personal best of 2:10.95. Freshman Keri Bland followed in second.
Senior Jessica Czaikowski continued her string of success, winning the 100 meter dash and the 100 meter hurdles. Teammate Abbie Stechschulte followed in the hurdles with a third place finish.
Freshman April Rotilio had a strong day, taking first in the 200 meter dash and second in the 100 meter dash.
In the field events, senior Nancy Regalbuto ended her WVU career with a first place finish in the high jump, leaping five feet, seven inches.
Five Mountaineers will now represent the squad at the NCAA Regional Championship, May 25-26, in Gainesville, Fla. Czaikowski, Stechschulte, Bland, Marie Louise Asselin and Clara Grandt will make the trip for WVU.
