MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - The West Virginia University rowing team concludes its season this weekend at the Dad Vail Regatta on the Schuylkill River, May 12-13, in Philadelphia, Pa.
The Dad Vail Regatta is annually the largest collegiate rowing event in the country. It features over 100 schools including Connecticut, Michigan and Penn State.
“We are really excited to compete at Dad Vails,” says head coach Nancy LaRocque. “They have all done well this season to this point and I do not expect anything different from them this weekend.”
WVU will send three boats to this weekend’s competition: the varsity four, varsity eight and novice four. The varsity four kicks Saturday off for the Mountaineers when it races in the preliminaries at 8 a.m. The varsity eight races at 11:23 a.m., while the novice four begins at 12:48 p.m.
West Virginia is returning from a week off from competition. The team last rowed at the BIG EAST Championships on April 29. The same three Mountaineer boats rowed at that regatta with the varsity four taking second overall.
“The varsity four has had a tremendous year four us,” says LaRocque. “We are looking for them to finish high again.”
The regatta concludes Sunday with the finals. Results can be found throughout the weekend at DadVail.org as wells as row2k.com.
