Track: Stechschulte Steady at Fourth After Day One

AUSTIN, TEXAS – Senior Abbie Stechschulte holds steady in the heptathlon at fourth place with 3,392 points after day one at the 80th Annual Texas Relays on Wednesday, April 4, at the Mike A. Myers Stadium.
The Columbus Grove, Ohio, native is 375 points behind leader Diana Pickler of Washington State.
Stechschulte started her day exceptionally, taking seventh in the 100 meter hurdles, clocking in at 14.00, her first BIG EAST qualifying mark of the day. The time currently ranks third in the conference.
The next qualifier came in the high jump, when Stechschulte finished fourth with a leap of 1.69 meters. She followed that with a third place finish in the shot put, throwing 12.37 meters.
Stechschulte ended the day with a 10th place finish in the 200 meter dash, stopping the watch at 25.01, her third BIG EAST qualifier.
Junior Maria Stover-Bartlett also competed today, taking sixth in the open 1500 meter run with a time of 4:41.89.
The Relays resume tomorrow, April 5, with the finale of the heptathlon, the 4x800 relay, the 400 meter hurdles, the hammer throw and the pole vault.
