Gymnastics: Cox Places 13th on Floor at Nationals

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – WVU senior gymnast Janáe Cox ended her storied career with a score of 9.825, tied for a 13th place finish in the floor exercise at the NCAA individual event national championships late Saturday night in the Huntsman Center.
Cox tied with Arizona’s Karin Wurm, who also scored a 9.825 on her routine. Alabama’s Morgan Dennis won the floor exercise national title out of the 18 competitors with a 9.9625.
Cox is the first WVU gymnast ever to score over 2,000 career points and finishes her career with 2070.65 points in her career. The Otisco, Ind., native had an outstanding senior season that saw her earn the 2007 EAGL Gymnast of the Year award and the 2007 Outstanding Senior Gymnast award from the conference.
By placing in the top four of the second preliminary session on floor Thursday, Cox was named a first team All-American and the fifth All-American in school history joining Kristen Macrie (2000), Kristen Quackenbush (1994, 1995, 1996), Lajuanda Moody (1994) and Shari Retton (1982).
Other event national champions included Georgia’s Courtney Kupets on vault (9.9188), Alabama’s Terin Humphrey on bars (9.95) and Utah’s Ashley Postell on beam (9.9375). Georgia won the team national championship.
