MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - WVU officials announced today they have reached an agreement with former men’s basketball coach John Beilein.
“After very productive discussions with Bob Fitzsimmons, Coach Beilein’s attorney, we are pleased to have finalized the details related to Coach Beilein’s departure from the university,” Tom Dorer, university general counsel said. “Obviously from the fact we reached agreement, both parties wanted to move on and amicably resolve any remaining issues.”
According to the agreement, Beilein will pay to the West Virginia University Foundation $1,500,000.00 over the next five years. The first annual payment is due in April, 2008, and with four more annual payments to follow. The final payment will be made April, 2012.
West Virginia University Director of Athletics Ed Pastilong stressed that the agreement allows WVU to concentrate on the future.
“The future looks bright,” said Pastilong. “We’re pleased with the direction and leadership of the basketball program. And today’s agreement will allow us to move ahead to that future.
“Things are really good right now for our athletic department. It’s time to concentrate on a new chapter in the history of Mountaineer basketball.”
