Rowing: WVU Places Two in Finals at Knecht Cup

Camden, N.J. - The West Virginia University rowing team continued to improve this spring as two Mountaineer boats earned trips to their respective Grand Finals on Sunday, April 15, at the Knecht Cup in Camden, N.J.
The varsity four boat took fifth, while the novice four boat crossed the line in sixth place. The finishes were the best of the season for WVU in the Grand Finals.
The varsity four’s dominated their heat on Saturday by finishing first by nearly 27 seconds. The Mountaineers crossed the line in 8:00.7 with Southern Methodist taking second in 8:27.4. The boat then improved its time by two seconds en route to its fifth-place finish.
The novice four boat finished third in its heat in a time of 8:46.5. In the finals the Mountaineers took sixth in the finals in 8:46.0.
Two other West Virginia boats competed over the weekend. The varsity eight boat finished fifth in the third final and the novice eight boat finished sixth in its heat, but didn’t qualify for any finals.
West Virginia travels to Oakridge, Tenn., on Saturday, April 21, to compete at the Southern Intercollegiate Rowing Association Championships (SIRAs).
