MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – After a successful weekend at the Texas Relays, West Virginia University’s track and field squad will split again and travel to both the Sea Ray Relays in Knoxville, Tenn., and the Robert Morris Open in Moon, Pa., on April 13-14.
Seniors Abbie Stechschulte and Jessica Czaikowski both performed exceptionally at the Relays. Stechschulte, a Columbus Grove, Ohio, native, placed fourth in the heptathlon with a personal best score of 5,609 points, a BIG EAST and NCAA automatic qualifier. The score is also an Olympic Trials ‘B’ standard and the second best point total in WVU history.
Czaikowski took third in the 100 meter hurdles with a BIG EAST and regional qualifying time of 13.53.
All told, the Mountaineers had 15 top 10 finishes, 13 BIG EAST qualifiers, two ECAC qualifiers, one NCAA automatic bid and one Olympic Trials standard at the Relays.
After spending the last three weekends on the road, the Mountaineers will return home on Saturday, April 21, to host the Mountaineers/Mohegan Invitational. The meet is set to last all day.
