“The girls worked hard and it showed on the field," said head coach Nikki Izzo-Brown. “We wanted to focus on a few areas and they went out there and executed very well.”
The Mountaineers knocked off Georgia, 2-0, in the first of two matches on Saturday. All-America forward Deana Everrett scored first as WVU took a 1-0 halftime lead. Senior Natalie Cocchi notched a second half goal to make it 2-0 over the Bulldogs.
West Virginia put together another shutout in the afternoon against host Tennessee in a 3-0 victory. Everrett found the net again, scoring all three goals against the Volunteers. Sophomore goalkeeper Mallory Beck worked all 80 minutes of both contests.
“It was good to compete against some very good teams and we need to build on this during the rest of the spring,” said Izzo-Brown.
West Virginia resumes its spring schedule with a trip to Virginia on March 17.
