“This is a great opportunity to work with Jill Ellis and the national team," says Izzo-Brown, an assistant coach for the U-20 team. “Jill, who coaches at UCLA, has enlisted some coaches from around the country to help recognize and evaluate the talent pool.”
Izzo-Brown will assist in a seven-day training camp beginning Friday, March 23, held on the campus of Texas A&M University. The national team will partake in a full schedule of training sessions and exhibition games against BYU (March 24), SMU (March 25) and Texas A&M (March 28).
“This is a good week for roster evaluation and the game competition will allow us to better assess the national team,” says Izzo-Brown. “We hope to find the right combination of athletes for the success of this team and for the future of U.S. soccer.”
The end-result will be to identify candidates to represent the United States at the 2008 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup to be held in Chile (dates still to be determined). The U.S. U-20s finished fourth last year in Russia.
Izzo-Brown and West Virginia resume spring competition on April 14-15, when the Mountaineers play host to the annual Betty Puskar Breast Care Center Soccer Invitational.
