Track: WVU Solid at 49er Classic

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Facing the harsh weather conditions for the second day in a row, West Virginia University’s track and field team pushed through and turned in solid performances on the final day of competition at the 49er Classis on Saturday, Mar. 17, in Charlotte, N.C.
Senior Jessica Czaikowski took the 100 meter hurdle race, clocking in at 13.52. Freshman Kristen Loughry followed with a 15th place finish time of 15.40.
In the 200 meter dash, sophomore Brittany Hohn finished 12th (25.74). Also turning in a top 10 performance on the track was junior Alison Spiker, who took sixth in the 3000 meter dash (10:05.43).
WVU’s 4x400 meter relay team finished the racing events for the Mountaineers, taking seventh with a time of 3:58.91.
In field action, senior Nancy Regalbuto made her return to the squad after sitting out last year with a redshirt. The Hedgesville, W.Va., native finished seventh in the high jump with a leap of 1.60 meters. Freshman Natasha Redman placed eighth (1.55 meters) and sophomore Julie Tawney took 10th (1.55 meters).
In pole vault, sophomore Alexis Reed captured eighth place with her 3.05 meter leap, and in the triple jump, senior Alexis Noel was 12th, jumping 11.11 meters.
Finally, in the javelin, sophomore Lauren Kosmal opened her season with an 11th place finish, throwing 33.55 meters.
The Mountaineers have a two week break before retuning to action. The team next travels to Fairfax, Va., for the George Mason Invite on Mar. 31.
