GAME NOTES
MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University baseball team’s games against Toledo, scheduled as a doubleheader at 1 p.m. on Saturday, March 17, has been cancelled due to inclement weather.
The Mountaineers and Rockets will meet for a doubleheader Sunday, March 18, weather permitting. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
West Virginia (9-4) enters this weekend’s competition after a 14-12 loss to Duquesne on Tuesday, March 13. Justin Parks went 2-for-3 while Adam White was 3-for-5. Senior Justin Jenkins knocked out his second homerun of the season in the third inning.
White is batting .411 to lead the Mountaineers this season. Junior Tyler Kuhn has batted in team-high 18 RBI. Left-hander Kenny Durst (2-1) has a team-best 1.75 ERA. Fellow lefty Matt Yurish has struck out 23 batters in 19.1 innings on the mound.
Toledo (4-6) is coming off a 14-8 loss to Dallas Baptist on Saturday, March 10. The Rockets, down by nine in the ninth inning, hammered off three runs but could not close the gap. Right-hander Todd Thomas took the loss as he allowed five runs on seven hits in 2.2 innings of work.
Senior Joel Visser leads the Rockets with a .385 batting average while junior Scott Boley has registered a team-high 11 RBI. Sophomore right-hander Mike Inselmann is sporting a 3.60 ERA after 15.0 innings on the mound.
