Women's Basketball: WVU Headed to NCAA Tournament

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – West Virginia University’s women’s basketball team has been selected to compete in the 2007 NCAA Tournament.
Seeded No. 11 in the Fresno bracket, WVU (20-10, 11-5) takes on No. 6 Xavier (26-7, 11-3) from the Atlantic 10 at 8 p.m. (est), Saturday, March 17, at the Frank Erwin Center in Austin, Texas. The winner of that contest takes on the winner of No. 3 LSU (26-7) and No. 14 UNC-Asheville (21-11), Monday, March 19.
WVU is making its fourth NCAA Tournament appearance, second under Coach Mike Carey and first since 2004. The Mountaineers qualified in 1989, 1992, 2004 and, now, 2007. WVU is 2-3 all-time in the NCAA Tournament and looking for its first win since 1992.
The Mountaineers are 2-1 all-time against Xavier in a series that began in 1985 and was most recently played in 1993.
WVU was also seeded No. 11 in 2004 and was seeded No. 12 in 1989 and No. 4 in its Sweet 16 year in 1992.
WVU is one of eight BIG EAST teams to qualify for the 2007 NCAA Tournament, which ties a league record for the most squads from the league to qualify (2004): Connecticut, Rutgers, Marquette, Louisville, Pitt, Notre Dame and DePaul.
