WVU Ranks 31st in Director's Cup Standings

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - Through the fall semester the West Virginia University athletic department ranks 31st in the U.S. Sports Academy (USAD) Directors’ Cup competition standings, presented by the National Association of College Athletic Directors (NACDA) and USA Today.
The Mountaineers collected 142.5 points to rank just 2.5 points behind 30th-place Utah. West Virginia’s football team led the way for the fall sports as it garnered 67.5 points with yet another stellar season. Both soccer teams also scored big points for the university as the men earned 50 points, while the women netted 25.
WVU sponsors women’s cross country, football, men’s and women’s soccer and volleyball, which count in the standings. The USAD also includes men’s cross country, women’s field hockey and men’s water polo in the fall rankings. The Mountaineers finished in 52nd-place with 349.5 points for the 2005-06 year.
West Virginia ranks fifth among BIG EAST Conference schools behind Notre Dame (10th), Louisville (23rd), Connecticut (25th) and Providence (27th).
The USAD Director’s Cup is the only all-sports competition that recognizes the best overall athletics program among universities.
