COLLEGE PARK, Md. – West Virginia University’s tennis team was defeated by the No. 33 University of Maryland, 6-1, on Sunday, Feb. 4, at the Tennis Center at College Park.
“We had a fairly good day today and we competed very well,” says first year coach Marc Walters. “We are learning every time we go on the court and we have to keep working on the stuff we’ve gone over in practice.”
Junior Monica Lyskawa earned the lone point for the Mountaineers (2-2), defeating Elyse Steiner in the No. 3 singles match, 6-2, 6-4.
“Lyskawa had a very nice match” says Walters. “I’m happy with the result because she was able to turn it in her favor at a critical point.”
Juniors Natalia Prinz and Stacey Percival kept their perfect doubles record intact, defeating Marianne Baker and Brooke Rodgers in the No. 1 doubles match, 8-6.
Prinz went on to lose to Baker at the No. 1 singles spot (1-6, 0-6) while Percival dropped the No. 2 singles match to Michal Amir (1-6, 0-6).
