Gymnastics: Cox Named EAGL Gymnast of Week

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – West Virginia University senior gymnast Janáe Cox has been named the East Atlantic Gymnastics League (EAGL) gymnast of the week for the third time this season.
Cox, a native of Otisco, Ind., won the all-around with a season-high 39.375 score in a dual meet last week against Michigan State. Cox now has 32 scores of 39.0 or better in just 43 career all-around attempts.
She placed in the top three on all events. Cox won vault with a 9.85 score, placed second on the balance beam (9.85) and floor exercise (9.825) and finished third on uneven bars (9.80).
This is the third time this season that Cox has received the honor; she was also named EAGL Gymnast of the Week on January 16 and January 30. This is the 10th time in her career that Cox has received the EAGL Gymnast of the Week honor.
NC State junior Leigha Hancock earned the EAGL Specialist of the Week honor while North Carolina freshman Christine Nguyen earned the EAGL Rookie of the Week honor.
West Virginia (14-6, 7-1 EAGL) currently owns a 194.07 regional qualifying score (RQS) to rank No. 21 in the GymInfo rankings. The Mountaineers sit atop the EAGL standings with NC State just behind with a 194.055 RQS.
West Virginia next travels to Columbus, Ohio, on Sunday, March 4, for a quad meet at No. 18 Ohio State with George Washington and Kentucky.
