Rifle: WVU Finishes Fifth at GARC Championship

RESULTS
OXFORD, Miss. – The West Virginia University rifle team finished fifth at the Great American Rifle Conference Championship with a team aggregate score of 4552.
In addition to placing fifth overall, WVU also finished fifth in both the smallbore and air rifle competitions.
Three Mountaineer shooters totaled 565 points (Lafe Kunkel, Paul Miller and Brian Launer) in the smallbore competition. Senior Adam Somers rounded out the counting team as he registered 555 points. Natasha Dinsmore, shooting as a non-counting member summing a season-high 550 points in the competition.
Kunkel shot 581 points to lead the West Virginia team in the air rifle competition. The junior’s total ties his season high, previously set against Akron on Jan. 20. All four counters shot within ten points of one another as Launer totaled 577 points, Somers summed 574 points and Miller recorded 572 points. The team’s 2303-point air rifle aggregate is just one point shy of the season high, set at the Palmyra Invitational, Jan. 13-15.
Launer was named to the all-conference second team in smallbore at this weekend's competiton.
The Mountaineers have finished the season with a 6-4 record, the first winning record since the 2002 season.
