Rifle: Four to Shoot at USA Event

MORGANTOWN, W.Va.- Members of the West Virginia University rifle team, Bryant Wallizer, Andy Lamson, Kyle Smith and Brandi Eskew, accompanied Head Coach Jon Hammond to Colorado Springs, Colo., for the 2007 USA Shooting 3xAir Match at the USA Olympic Training Center from Nov. 30 to Dec. 2. The Mountaineers shot solely air rifle in the three-day event, an annual match hosted by USA Shooting. Over 200 shooters from the United States, Canada, the Czech Republic, France and Puerto Rico all competed.
On the first day of competition, Wallizer made the podium with a second-place finish in the junior section. He went into the final in second-place behind Kentucky's Tom Csenge with a score of 587. After a final of 101.5 and total of 688.5, he remained in second, just behind eventual winner Ethan Settlemires.
Lamson also made the junior final in seventh place where he shot a 583 and 101.3 for a total of 684.3. Smith shot a 576 for 13th place in the junior men division and Eskew shot a 384 for 20th in the junior women division.
Wallizer again made the junior final in the second day of competition with a 586 and 102.1 for a total of 688.1. He earned fourth place, just missing the poduim. Smith was one place away from the junior final with a 579 and ninth place and Lamson was 16th with 574. In the junior women dividion, Eskew placed 19th with a score of 585.
In the third and final day of competition, Wallizer made the junior men’s final for the third straight day and his score of 592 and 101.1 gave him a total of 693.1 and second place. His score also qualified him in seventh place for the Open final where he finished in eighth place out of the 68 participants. Lamson made the junior men’s final for the second time with a personal best score of 587. After his final of 99.6 he was tied for fifth place with Kasey Meyer of Murray State, but lost the shoot off with a 9.8 against a 10.4. Kyle Smith finished 10th in the junior men’s division with a 582, while Brandi Eskew was 19th with 384.
