MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – West Virginia University sophomore cross country runner Marie-Louise Asselin will run for her native Canada at the World Championships in Scotland in March 2008.
Asselin finished fourth with a time of 24:18.5 in the senior women’s race of the Canadian Cross Country Championship in Guelph, Ontario, on Dec. 1. By placing in the top six spots, she qualifies for the race next spring. Former WVU national champion Megan Metcalfe (23:55.1) finished second and qualifies with Asselin for the national event as well.
Asselin and Mountaineer teammate Keri Bland became the first WVU All-Americans in cross country since Metcalfe did so back in 2004. Asselin was the Mountaineers’ top finisher all cross country season and led West Virginia to its first BIG EAST Championship in school history and a ninth place national finish, the highest in school history.
