Women's Basketball: No. 18 WVU Opens Season Friday

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – West Virginia University’s nationally ranked women’s basketball team opens the 2007-08 season with a non-conference contest against Canisius, Friday, Nov. 9, at 7 p.m., at the WVU Coliseum.
West Virginia, (No. 18 in AP/No. 22 in ESPN/USA Today Coaches), and the Golden Griffins will be meeting for the first time. The contest also marks the season-opener for Canisius.
WVU returns all five starters from last year’s 21-11 NCAA second round squad that also finished fourth in the BIG EAST with an 11-5 mark. WVU also boasts seven seniors on this year’s squad, the largest senior class in school history.
Canisius, located in Buffalo, N.Y., was 16-14 last year and returns two starters from last season’s squad. They also posted an 8-10 record in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Association.
