Women's Soccer: WVU Awaits ND In BIG EAST Finals

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The 12th-ranked West Virginia University women’s soccer team will meet 11th-ranked Notre Dame Sunday, Nov. 11, in the finals of the BIG EAST Women’s Soccer Championship. Kick off is scheduled for noon at Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium.
West Virginia makes its third BIG EAST finals appearance and first since 2002. The Fighting Irish will be looking to win its third consecutive and 10th overall BIG EAST postseason title.
WVU brings a six-match win streak into Sunday’s game and has loss just once in its last 12 games (10-1-1). During that 12-game stretch, WVU has outscored its opponents 22-7, outshot them 270-88 and held an 86-22 corner kick advantage.
Sunday’s finals will be televised live by CSTV and broadcasted on numerous regional sports networks including Cox Sports Television in New England, Fox Sports Net New York, Comcast SportsNet Chicago, Time Warner Wisconsin, Comcast SportsNet Philadelphia, the Mid-Atlantic Sports Network (MASN), Catch47 in Tampa and WVFX Fox 46 in Morgantown.
The winner of Sunday’s match earns the league’s automatic bid to the 64-team NCAA Division I Women’s Soccer Championship. Both teams will also look to secure one of the top 16 national seeds for the NCAA tournament.
The NCAA field of 64 will be announced Monday, Nov. 12, at 8 p.m., on ESPN News. There are 30 automatic bids through conference championships and 34 at-large bids. The first round of the NCAAs will begin Nov. 16 at campus sites.
