MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Senior Andrew Halsell was named BIG EAST Defender of the Week, announced conference officials today. The Mountaineers went 1-0-1 last week playing Marquette to a double-overtime 0-0 draw on Wednesday, Oct. 24, before defeating Seton Hall 3-0 on Saturday, Oct. 27.
Halsell led a defense that shutout both Marquette and Seton Hall, limiting both opponents to a total of just six shots and six corner kicks. Marquette was held to three shots and zero shots on goal. In a 3-0 victory over Seton Hall, the senior defender helped limit SHU to three shots and one shot on goal.
The honor marks the sixth time this season that a Mountaineer has been chosen Player of the Week, and the second consecutive week the WVU defense was honored. Last week, Jason Bristol was named Defender of the Week.
