Tennis: WVU Heads to South Carolina

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University women’s tennis team heads to Columbia, S.C., to compete in the Southern Intercollegiate Championships hosted by the University of South Carolina on Friday, Oct. 26, through Sunday, Oct. 28.
The weekend-long tournament features nine singles draws consisting of 16 players and nine doubles draws with eight teams each. Matches will be played at four different locations throughout the campus.
Seniors Stacey Percival and Monica Lyskawa will play in the A-1 singles bracket, with both opening matches on Friday at noon. Percival faces Anna Novo of South Carolina-Upstate, and Lyskawa will face Tennessee-Martin’s Elizma Schoonees.
Senior Natalia Prinz is the lone Mountaineer in A-2 singles, competing against South Carolina-Upstate’s Diana Martinez on Friday at 2:30 p.m.
Freshman standout Ashley Renee Pilsbury, who has won all three of her tournaments in the fall, will play Beata Knizat of Tennessee-Chattanooga on Friday at 2:30 p.m. in the first round of B-2 singles play.
The rest of WVU’s opening singles draws on Friday are as follows:
B-3 singles: Alexandra Kaluza vs. Martina Beckman (Armstrong) at 1:15 p.m.
B-4 singles: Gabriela Blaskovicova vs. Lora Dushanova (Davidson) at 1:15 p.m.
C-1 singles: Stephanie LaFortune vs. Jessica Fuller (Georgia Southern) at noon
C-2 singles: Monique Burton vs. Lauren Smith (Benedict) at 1:15 p.m.
C-2 singles: Colleen Speaker vs. Lauren Prickett (Western Carolina) at 2:30 p.m.
WVU’s opening doubles draws on Friday will be played at 9 a.m. and are as follows:
A-1 doubles: Percival/Lyskawa vs. Stupak/Kovacs (Armstrong)
A-2 doubles: Prinz/LaFortune vs. Mansour/Vuckovic (South Carolina)
A-3 doubles: Blaskovicova/Kaluza vs. Henry/Hodges (Western Carolina)
B-2 doubles: Pilsbury/Burton vs. Schutte/Hilali (Charleston Southern)
