MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – West Virginia plays host to Mississippi State in a Saturday afternoon homecoming game at Milan Puskar Stadium. The contest is being televised by ESPN Regional (John Sanders and Renee Nadeau) to select stations throughout the Northeast. Kickoff is set for 3:30 p.m.
Here is Saturday’s Countdown to Kickoff:
10 – TEN different West Virginia players have caught at least one pass in 2007. Darius Reynaud leads the Mountaineers with 34 catches for 430 yards and six touchdowns this season.
9 – West Virginia’s defense has NINE interceptions this year and 15 total turnovers. The Mountaineers have a 15-10 turnover advantage so far this season.
8 – The Mountaineers have EIGHT more sacks through six games than they did last year. This year WVU shows 19 sacks while last year West Virginia had 11 at the same point.
7 – West Virginia is ranked SEVENTH in the USA Today Coaches’ Poll heading into today’s game.
6 – WVU is ranked SIXTH in the country in scoring offense averaging 42.8 points per game.
5 – West Virginia has FIVE scoring plays covering 23 yards or longer this year including Steve Slaton’s 58-yard touchdown run in the season opener against Western Michigan.
4 – The Mountaineers are ranked FOURTH in third down conversions making 52 percent of their third-down tries (39 of 75).
3 – THREE players (Steve Slaton, Patrick White and Owen Schmitt) represent 61.9 percent of West Virginia’s rushing offense in 2007.
2 – Mississippi threw TWO interceptions in last year’s game in Starkville. West Virginia won the game 42-14.
1 – Mississippi State’s trip to Morgantown is the FIRST time an SEC team has played at West Virginia since Kentucky in 1979.
